Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke says he elected to serve as Best Man to his Press Secretary, Kufre Okon who wedded last Saturday as payback for what the latter did for him in 2014.

Speaker Luke who caused a stir as he stepped out in a milky suit as Best Man for his aide, said he chose to play the role because he (Kufre) stood by him when the chips of his political life were down in 2014.

According to Barr. Luke, “In 2014, he did a lot for me. He abandoned his Post Graduate Programme outside the country and fought for me during that trying period. I’ve been looking for an opportunity to pay him back. There’s no role too big or small to play for Kufre,” he said.

He described Kufre as a humble, dedicated and faithful aide who has become a brother to him. Speaker Luke prayed God to bless their marriage.

In a brief homily at the wedding held at The Apostolic Church, 69 Oron Road, the Resident Pastor urged the couple to love one another and learn to adjust in order to have a blissful and successful marriage.

Giving a vote of thanks, Mr. Kufre, on behalf of his wife, Rachael thanked his boss, Barr. Onofiok Luke, for standing by him during the planning and execution of the marriage ceremonies. He expressed appreciation to him for serving as his Best Man, adding that when he (Luke) told him that he’ll be his Best Man at his wedding, he didn’t believe.

He described Barr. Luke as a worthy boss for whom he is grateful to. He also thanked his wife, Dr. Uduak Onofiok for being a mother to him.

The soft-spoken media expert thanked all those who played one role or the other towards making their marriage a success.

The couple had their traditional engagement on Thursday, 5th April at Ifa Ikot Akpabio, Uyo.

The wedding which attracted a mammoth crowd had in attendance political office holders, House of Assembly members, aides to the Governor, captains of industry, media professionals, family members, friends and well wishers who turned up in their numbers to share in the joy of the lovebirds.
