Village Head on the run

A policeman simply known as Abu suspected to be a gun-runner was last Tuesday morning killed by security operatives. Unconfirmed reports said it was during a gun battle.
According to reliable sources who pleaded anonymity told our reporter that the suspect who is said to have served in Ukanafun for more than a decade is said to have been married to a woman from Okoyo village in Ukanafun local government area of Akwa Ibom State. Sources from the village said that his father-inlaw, Chief Monday Ndarake was one of the contestants for the Chieftaincy stool in the village. Marks and riffles were reportedly recovered at the suspect’s residence in Ukanafun.
The Chieftaincy tussle is said to have ignited the bloody crisis that has laid to the lost of many lives and properties in Ukanafun local government area. Chief Ndarake allegedly mobilized members of De-Bam cult group to fight the opponent who was favoured by a High Court ruling.
A source in the village alleged that when a youth leader in the village who was said to be a member of Iceland killing force was killed by members of De-Bam cult group that led to the wide-spread killing in the local government area.
The suspect is alleged to have been a key player in the crisis as he was accused to be supplying arms and ammunitions to the father-inlaw’s squad.
Security sources alleged that one of the suspects in the police net is said to have made the explosive confession that led to the tracing of the Delta born policeman who is alleged to have invested extensively in a landed property in Ukanafun.
The said suspect, Abu who had been linked to illegal oil bunkery is said to have been an ally to the dreaded gangsters.
Recalled that police officer George Iyamu, DSP was sentenced to death by hanging by Benin High Court for supplying arms to a Lawrence Anini for serial robberies in the city and its environs.
When our reporter contacted the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Odiko Macdon, he however denied any knowledge of such incident, but promised to get back to our reporter as soon as he confirms the report. He was yet to get back to our reporter as at the time of filling in this report.
