Three suspected armed robbers have been burnt to death in Mbiatok Itam in Itu Local Government Area, the hometown of Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Housing and Special Duties, Mr. Akan Okon.

The gunmen who are believed to be in their late 20s, were on their way to escape after robbing the area at about 3am, when luck ran out of them and were captured by youths who burnt to ashes.

A native of the area, Monday Daniel said;
“for many months, we have not been sleeping with our two eyes closed because of these criminals. I am so happy that three of them have been burnt to death today. While many of us are struggling to make a living, they want to reap from where they did not sow. The era of taking thieves and criminals to the Police is over. Now when we catch you, you’re gone forever.”

Confirming the incident, Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer, Odikko MacDon described it as “unfortunate”.

“We have been advising the youth to find something and do for a living. Crime does not pay. Imagine how they were burnt to death even their parents and families don’t even know where they are.” MacDon said.
