Sad: Helen Ukpabio absconds with father’s corpse

as brother, family raises alarm, demand for 14 months dead body for burial

Popular Evangelist and founder of the Liberty Gospel Ministries, Lady Helen Ukpabio, has absconded with her father’s corpse, bluntly refusing to release body for burial. The corpse has been held hostage by her for 14 months now.

Late Chief Eseessien Akpabio, father to the movie star, died on 2nd February, 2018 in the residence of Lady Apostle Ukpabio, who happens to be his elder daughter.

Addressing a press briefing in Uyo over the weekend, Mr Henry Eseessien Akpabio, elder son and head of Late Chief Eseessien Akpabio’s family, made an official cry to Ukpabio to release the lifeless body of their father so as to be accorded a befitting burial, saying time is overdue for his soul to rest in peace.

“ Let my sister know officially that I am crying out openly now. Please, let her give me my father’s corpse for burial. I don’t need anything from her, I don’t need her money, I don’t need her wealth, I don’t need her mansion,” he said.

But Helen Ukpabio could not be reached to state her own position on the matter. Efforts to get in touch with her proved abortive. This Paper could not ascertain whether the Televangelist absconded with the corpse as being acussed by her brother or had since buried the old man.

Continuing in his cry, Mr.Henry Esessien Akpabio said, “ I am a poor man, I am satisfied, and I am happy. I don’t need her money, I need my father’s corpse. I want to give him a befitting burial and no one will stop me from doing that.

“ Being the male heir of the family and only surviving son of Chief Eseessien Akpabio, I think the responsibility falls on me as the first son to arrange for the burial of my father,” he tearfully poured out.

The UK-based breadwinner made it known that since the demise of their father, there has been no detectable clue to where the woman of God has kept the corpse and why it is being kept wherever it is.

He further disclosed that there has been no direct consultation between the surviving siblings and Lady Apostle Ukpabio in respect to where their father’s remains has been kept and discussion on the burial rites rather it has been Ukpabio’s husband who has continually picked up her calls as efforts to get to their sister directly has proved abortive.

“She has refused talking to me since 2010. Even when my brothers died, I was the one who called her. She doesn’t want to see us but I have very much, as a man and child of God, tried to arrange on how to get to her but all has been in vain. I have texted her. I have sent her emails. I have spoken to a family member of her house, specifically, the husband to arrange on how we could bury my father.

“There are evidences to show that there were consents by the husband who spoke with me that 27th April, 2019 was enough time to prepare for the burial of my father,” he explained.

It is learnt that the burial rites was fixed for last weekend but, the Lady Apostle was no where near their home town, Ini Local Government Area, let alone straying unconsciously to the family compound. The corpse was also no where to be found.

According to Akpabio, “ I came all the way from the UK to bury my dad based on the arrangement that was made by the entire family but my sister refused to release my father’s corpse for burial on reasons best known to her but we do not know.”

Akpabio, who wore a sad and chaotic look, wondered if of a truth, the father’s corpse can ever again be seen by human eyes.

“ I don’t know if the body is still there but why is she keeping it. I don’t know why she has decided not to allow us the siblings to know where the body is. I don’t know why she does not allow anyone access to the mortuary, so that we will be sure that my father is where he is. She claims that if the corpse is released for me, that I will bury my father like a chicken. I have appealed and begged her to join with me let me give our father a befitting burial but she has refused,” he said painfully.

Meanwhile, Akpabio has described as blatant lie, the accusation having it that Obong Bassey Inuaeyen killed his brothers, saying Inuaeyen is innocent.
