Pomp, celebration as Akan Okon showers love on Itu people

It was pomp and celebration at Government Primary School, Mbiatok Itam, Itu LGA, Akwa Ibom State when the Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr Akan Okon, on Tuesday, treated stakeholders, women, men and Youths of the area, to an elaborate end of the year ceremony.

The event afforded the Commissioner an opportunity to thank the people for their support and encourage them to remain steadfast with the current administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel.

 

Speaking at the well attended ceremony, the Commissioner, flanked by his wife, Queen, said the annual event is a platform to chart the way forward for the development and progress of Itu LGA and lauded the people for gracing the event in their large numbers.

The former Finance Commission while restating his commitment to the welfare of Itu people, said he would never pursue his personal interest, but that of Itu LGA.

He thanked the people for their support and prayers for Governor Emmanuel, during the last election and assured them that he will not relent efforts in attracting development to the LGA.

Also speaking at the event, Senator Anietie Okon described the Commissioner as a diligent servant and leader, pointing out that he (Akan Okon) has not disappointed, but done Itu people proud, in all his assignments.

“I want to thank God for our son and brother, Akan Okon. In whatever assignment he is given, he excels. It was through him that we stand tall with an airline servicing the whole of the country and I’m confident that with him also, the Deep Sea port will be realised. I pray for him and I urge you to join me to pray that he continues excelling under Governor Udom Emmanuel. We tie our hopes and future to the only God mantra”, he said.

On her part, a former House of Assembly Member from the area,
Dr. Ekaette Ebong Okon, while thanking Mr Okon for sustaining the event in the last six years, saluted his sterling leadership styles and urged the people to rally round the Commissioner to ensure he continues to succeed.

“There is a difference between a leader and other people. A leader knows where to command his people to follow. At this time, there is need for everyone to follow Akan Okon. We must rally around our son and listen to him. I make bold to say that we have a leader in Akan Okon, a leader that knows the direction. Sir, wherever you want to go, tell us and we will follow you”, she said.

Similarly, the Leader of Itu Legislative Council, Hon. Bassey Bassey, Chairman of PDP in Itu LGA, Hon Victor Okon and the PDP Woman Leader in the area, Mrs Inemesit Maxwell, in their respective speeches for his benevolence to the people and promised their continued support for the current administration and the Commissioner.

The event featured performances, presentation of gift items and cash donations to the women, youths, stakeholders and other groups.
