LG Elections: A’Ibom PDP to kick off Campaigns
… State Chairman tasks Party members, stakeholders on massive turnout
The State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) has charged party faithful and stakeholders to ensure they turn out enmass for the scheduled Campaign of the party aimed at preparing the party for landslide victory in the October 31st Local government elections.
Addressing stakeholders and members of the Local Organising Committees (LOCs) of the various local government chapters at the state party secretariat in Uyo, Monday October 12, the state party chairman, Obong Udo Ekpenyong, announced that the campaign is billed to hold on federal constituency basis, commencing on Thursday October 15, 2020 at Ikot Abasi and Eastern Obolo.
Obong Ekpenyong also announced that due to present situation of things and logistics concerns, the traditional campaign flag off rally will not hold. He explained that the ten-day long event shall engage and mobilise grassroot members and supporters for the up coming October 31st elections. He charged the local organising committees to play their role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the exercise.
While expressing optimism in the party’s strength and growth, the chairman encouraged party faithful to work for the development of the party beyond elections. He noted that the strength of the party is hinged on the development at the ward structures. He also advised that players in the polity should not heat up the system too early in the build up to 2023.
Also present at the meeting were the deputy speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. (Princess) Felicia Bassey, immediate past state chairman of PDP, Obong Paul Ekpo, the national legal adviser, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, serving local government chairmen and other key stakeholders of the party.
Recall that the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) in its schedule for the local government polls, announced the expiration of campaigns by political parties on October 29.
