ITU/IBIONO FEDERAL REP EMBARKS ON HIV/AIDS AWARENESS

…THANKS MRS MARTHA EMMANUEL ON WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

Member representing Itu/Ibiono Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr Henry Archibong has harped on continuous enlightenment on the spread of HIV/AIDS in the state.

He spoke to newsmen on monday when his team embarked on an awareness campaign within his federal constituency.

Archibong noted that Akwa Ibom State has the second largest HIV prevalence in Nigeria and as such requires a more deliberate approach to the scourge.

He said that as a medical doctor he has come face to face with challenges caused by knowledge of ones status and unhealthy habits.

He praised the efforts of the wife of the state Governor, Mrs Martha Emmanuel for constantly empowering the women with both material needs and information for survival.

” Our task today is easy because her excellency has done a greater path of it. When you watch her closely and follow her programmes with secondary school girls and women, you would appreciate how much she has done. We all must emulate her fine gestures. It is important that as legislators, we report progress in making good laws, physical projects, empowerments, all of which I do but I think we also need human capital development which includes taking messages like this to the grassroots which is ultimately for our good”, Archibong noted.

The Sensitization campaign included free HIV/AIDS screening, counselling and distribution of condoms to constituents.
