Boost Food Sufficiency through Farming~ Akan Okon tasks Families
Families have been enjoined to engage in subsistence farming in order to boost the economic status and also ensure food availability and sufficiency in the State.
The advice came from the Honourable Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr. Akan Okon,
during an interaction with the Forum of Village Council Chairmen led by the President, Chief Emmanuel Akpan Obot.
According to him, apart from the availability of foods for the entire household, homegrown food are also very affordable, accessible, rich in natural nutrients and enhanced the proper growth and development of humans.
This, he noted will help in tackling the issues of malnutrition which has been identified as one of the most fundamental challenges in the society today.
He stressed that the present government led by Mr. Udom Emmanuel has placed emphasis on diversification of the state’s economy to agriculture, saying the move has yielded positive results.
The Commissioner called on members of the forum to work in unison with village heads to ensure that their farm lands are not sold out to individuals or group of persons that will pose a threat to the peace of the community and the state at large.
While acknowledging the supports given to Governor Udom Emmanuel led government, Mr. Okon reassured them of the Governor’s continued commitment towards the well being of every Akwa Ibom citizen through the implementation of policies and programmes that will add values to the lives of citizens.
The President, Forum of Village Council Chairmen, Chief Emmanuel Akpan Obot, highlighted the activities of the forum to include, maintaining peace and unity in their various communities, complementing the activities of village heads, among other things.
He inferred that the forum is a non political organization.
Chief Obot however noted that, having witnessed the positive impact of the present government through the visionary leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel, especially in restoring peace and security to the state, establishment of industries which now generate jobs for the teeming youths, the youth have pledged unflinching support and loyalty to the present government.
He assured the Commissioner that the group is ready to partner the government in all areas to ensure steady development of Akwa Ibom State.
