Akwa Ibom set to become an Economic Hub~ Gov Udom Emmanuel

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has said that his administration is working assiduously to make the state a one-stop-shop that would cater for the modular refineries proposed by by federal government in the Niger Delta Region.

Governor Emmanuel dropped the hint while fielding questions from Government House Correspondents at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo , on arrival from an official assignment outside the state .

The Governor said that considerable strength has been exerted in the aviation sector as indicated in the ongoing works on the second run way and terminal building at the Victor Attah International Airport, actualisation of the Ibakka Deep Seaport project, roads construction and in the industrialisation drive of the state administration .

According to him, “we are trying to create a hub in the state . Nigeria is strong enough a country to serve as a hub to so many other countries around .That’s what we are pursuing aggressively.

“You can see the works going on at the Airport, in terms of the second runway, terminal building, you can also see the way we are pursuing the seaport project. So we are trying to make sure we do our best and a lot more”.

He recalled that the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo in the last National Executive Council (NEC) meeting had clarified on the Federal government’s intention to establish modular refineries in the Niger Delta region, explaining that the state would be made a logistic centre where investors can stop over to get aviation fuel and other resources.

“…..during the last NEC meeting, the Vice President made clarification on the modular refineries, and we need to play a major role, we cannot be a hub if we cannot get people to stop here, get aviation fuel, and probably make the state a hub and a logistic centre”, he stated .
