“The Committee is interested in the Ibom Science Park. We want to commend His Excellency for having agreed to complete that project, it has been a source of worry to Akwa Ibom people, having put in so much money for the Ibom Science Park”, he said.

While also lauding Professor Essien for discharging his duties creditably, the Committee Chairman urged him to accord priority to the project, and expressed optimism that when completed, the Park will further boost the job creation policy of the current administration.

“As the Commissioner in charge of the Ibom Science Park, I want you to take it as a priority project. It’s a place that can also generate a lot of employment for Akwa Ibomites”, the Lawmaker added.

Earlier in his presentation, Professor Essien revealed that the sum of N2.8bn has been budged for the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2019, against the N1.7bn Naira budgeted for outgoing year, 2018.

Professor Essien further said that about N300m has been budgeted for the revamp of the Ibom Science Park, adding the State Government will also set up ICT hubs across the various Local Government Areas in the State, next year, to encourage young people learn Science and Technology.

“One of the new project we are going to finance in 2019 is the Ibom Science Park which provision has been made in the 2019 Budget, about N300m”, he said.
