A’ibom state polytechnic to graduate 9,096 students next week

Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua says it will be graduating 9,096 students during it’s 6th convocation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, 11th May 2019.

Dr Moses Umobong, the Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, disclosed this at a news conference on Friday in Ikot Ekpene as part of programmes to mark the 6th Convocation Ceremony of the Polytechnic.

He said the conferment of Higher National Diploma, Diploma and Fellowship Awards on deserving personalities would hold at the school campus.

According to him, the convocation was mainly for students who finished their academic programmes in 2014/2015, 2015/2016, 2016/2017, 2017/ 2018 academic sessions. The event will witnessed exhibition of some work done by the students.

Flanked by the Chairman of the Governing Council of the institution, Dr Samuel Edet and the Registrar Dr (Mrs) Mary Ndah, the Rector said the students were drawn from various faculties of the institution.

He said the institution has written officially to government on its intention to gain accreditation for other courses, especially, mechanical engineering with the focus of making the Polytechnic the best in the country.

“We will continue to produce quality graduates that will compete favourably with their counterparts”.

While thanking Governor Emmanuel for his support to the School, Dr Umobong said the institution has zero tolerance for cultism and further assured that necessary security measures have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free convocation ceremony.

On his part, Acting Chairman of the Institution’s Governing Council, Dr Samuel Edet, said the Governing Council has enjoyed a good working relationship with the present management of the school, saying there has been remarkable improvements in terms of physical structures and academic performance in the state-owned Polytechnic.

Edet said the institution successfully secured accreditation for 32, out of 33 courses presented before the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), saying according to the Exit Report from the NBTE, it was the first time an institution recorded such feat.

While describing the Institution’s graduands as being of high standard, Dr Edet said the school is one of the Polytechnics with the best Information and Communications Technology (ICT) facilities in Nigeria and pledged that the Governing Council under his able leadership, remains undaunted in ensuring the institution attains an enviable height.

The State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel who is expected as the special guest of honor will perform the foundation laying ceremony for the 52 capacity Udom Emmanuel Academic Block.
